The Alaskan Hotel opened its doors in 1913 and proudly remains the oldest operating hotel in Alaska, where you’ll find a nationally registered historic landmark with late-Victorian flourishes and architecture, Tiffany-style stained glass, and authentic Gold Rush era charm. As with many period structures, some modern amenities are absent in order to preserve our illustrious past, such as air conditioning (although Juneau’s cool coastal climate rarely calls for it) and elevators so please expect at least 2 or more flights of stairs to reach your room from the lobby on the ground floor. Like many buildings in downtown Juneau, The Alaskan Hotel & Bar was built into the hillside, making stairs a natural part of the experience so please keep this in mind when booking your stay with us. The Alaskan Hotel & Bar is located in lively downtown Juneau with a very active bar attached and as such, we are a 21+ adult establishment. We want our guests to have a wonderful and memorable experience with us, so if you’re looking for modern décor and every contemporary convenience, Juneau has many lovely accommodations with those options available. Here, you will find more of a boutique hotel experience as our rooms are somewhat smaller and half of them feature private shared bathrooms*, which are distinct traits commonly found in historic hotels. This allows us to provide affordable options for travelers as we always have while also giving our guests the same experience that a gold rush miner would have had staying here in 1913. If you’re looking for an authentic Alaskan experience, full of character, music, and stories over more than a century in the making, we think you’ll feel right at home at The Alaskan Hotel & Bar!

*Private shared bathrooms are accessed by a code given at check-in and used by one guest at a time. Simply lock the door behind you and enjoy complete privacy until you are finished. The shared facilities are maintained by our housekeeping staff 9am-4pm daily.
